First and foremost, at Salv, our mission is to Beat Financial Crime. That's why we constructed the Salv platform and Bridge. Primarily we built it with anti-money laundering (AML) teams in mind, but many companies also use it for anti-fraud as well.
❣️ In the end, though, our aim is to create an easy-to-use, fully customisable crime-fighting engine that makes your lives easier and criminals' lives a lot harder.
Our founding story
Once upon a time, two of our co-founders, Jeff and Taavi, joined Skype as young data scientists, ready to put their maths skills to work. Soon they found themselves knee-deep in helping fight fraudsters all over the world. They loved it.
Next, Taavi moved on to a fledgling fintech called TransferWise, where he naively thought that fighting crime on a much wider scope would be far more fun. So he took on the global head of compliance role, building fraud, AML, EDD, KYC, and chargebacks product from the ground up. Soon, Taavi discovered that AML especially was a far different game than Fraud because the industry at the time was more rules-focused and seemed to care far less about fighting crime. But, not to be deterred, Taavi and his team at TransferWise built an engine that would both fight crime and please all of the regulators they were encountering as they expanded TransferWise to more and more countries.
Jeff eventually joined TransferWise, too. But not in compliance, but as a growth analyst, where he took on leading the analytics guild and dove into topics like people and culture.
At TransferWise, Jeff and Taavi met Sergei, who was heading up the engineering team working on the KYC product.
At some point it was clear it was time to take all of their knowledge and build something that would fight crime for many financial companies all over the world. And that's how Salv was born.
Our team today
Most Salvers are located in Estonia, split between the two largest cities — Tallinn and Tartu. Estonians are known for their straightforward, no BS, honest approach. And we'd have to say that Salv has inherited much of that.
Our team is quite experienced for a startup, hailing from established companies like TransferWise, Guardtime, Skype, Pipedrive and Iglu. And we're passionate about helping you fight financial crime.
