Setting up your account

Updated over 11 months ago

Once you have been invited to join Bridge – either by Salv or an organisation admin from your organisation, you should receive an invitation email. Follow the link in the email to set up your account password.

🚨 Note that for security purposes, the invitation link is active only for 24h. If it has expired, follow the “Forgot password” link in the welcome e-mail to still set up your account.

First, you will be asked to create a password. Your account password should meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum length: 16

  • Maximum length: 64

  • Must not contain any part of your email address (name or domain), including in reverse

  • Checked against known breaches using the HaveIBeenPwned service; previously leaked passwords are not allowed.

❗️ Note: Your password is never sent anywhere. Only a small, non-identifiable part of its hash is checked locally in your browser to ensure it hasn't been compromised.

Next, you will need to log in. Use your e-mail and newly created password to log in to Bridge.

You will be greeted by your profile page, where you will need to finalise your account setup before starting to use Bridge. Click “Begin account setup” to continue.

The next step in the process is setting up your 2-factor authentication (2FA) and encryption password.

Follow the instructions on screen to set up your 2FA. You can use any of the common 2FA applications on your phone (e.g. Authy, Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator).

🚨 Note that 2FA is tied to your mobile phone! If you want to start using a new phone, then you must disable the 2FA with your old phone first and set it up again. If you don’t have access to your old phone anymore, ask someone with organisation admin user role to reset the 2FA for you.

Next, you’ll need to set up your encryption password. This is required for protecting access to the keys needed for encrypting and decrypting the content in Bridge. The encryption password should be different from your account password and meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum length: 16

  • Maximum length: 64

  • Must not contain any part of your email address (name or domain), including in reverse

  • Checked against known breaches using the HaveIBeenPwned service; previously leaked passwords are not allowed.

🚨 Note that if you reset your encryption password, you will also lose access to your organisation private keys, which means that you will not be able to access the contents of previous messages and reports anymore. To regain access, some other user from your organisation (who has access to organisation private keys) needs to log in with their account. Your access is then automatically restored.

Lastly, if you have the Secure Messaging Reader or Secure Messaging Editor roles, you will have the option to select whether you want to receive email notifications.

Once you have finished these steps, you’re all set to start using Bridge - click “Start using Bridge”!

💡 If at any point you wish to change your password, reset 2FA, or modify email notification settings, you can do so through your profile.
