Collaborative investigations: Investigation page

Updated over 11 months ago

Navigating to the Investigation page

You can access the Investigation page in three ways:

  1. After creating a new investigation: once you create a new investigation and click "Send", you will be automatically forwarded to the Investigation page.

  2. Through the Investigations page: from the main list of all investigations, you can filter or search to find specific investigations. Clicking on an investigation from this list will also direct you to the Investigation page.

  3. Via email notification: if you have email notifications enabled, you will receive an alert when there is an incoming investigation. Clicking the link in the email will take you directly to the Investigation page relevant to that notification.

The Investigation page is a comprehensive workspace where you can manage all aspects of an investigation. Below, you’ll find detailed explanations of each part of the Investigation page to help you use all its features effectively.

Conversation

Located on the right-hand side of the Investigation page, the Conversation panel is a central feature for managing and responding to investigative communications.

Responding to requests or seeking additional information in investigations you initiate is straightforward, thanks to the design that resembles an instant messaging application. The format of the response field varies depending on the template used. It can be:

  • A simple free text field for typing messages directly.

  • Multiple input fields, some of which may be compulsory, for detailed information.

To reply, just fill in the necessary data or type your message, attach any required files, and hit “Send”.

Status

If you cannot answer right away, you can mark the status of the conversation to “Pending”. This will let other side know that you are dealing with the case.

Once you are done with the case, you can mark it as Closed from the status selection dropdown. The other side will also be notified about the case closure. If either side sends a new message in an already closed request, it will be re-opened.

If you have the “investigation conclusion” feature enabled for a category, then, after marking the status as Closed, you will see a modal window asking for a conclusion.

Notes

You can use Notes section to add internal notes for your own organisation. These will not be seen by the counterparty organisation.

To add a note, click “Add note”, enter your text and click “Submit”.

You can use the search box in the Notes section to find previously added internal notes. Simply start typing keywords, and the system will automatically conduct the search for you.

Files

The Files section on the Investigation page acts as a central repository for all documents associated with the investigation. This feature is designed to make file management more efficient, especially in cases involving extensive communication. All files shared during the conversation are visible here to both parties, eliminating the need to scroll through long conversation threads to locate specific documents.

To access a file, simply click on it, and a download will be automatically prompted.

📄 Please note that new files cannot be added directly within this section. If you need to share additional documents, they should be uploaded through the conversation panel.

Conclusion

If you have the “investigation conclusion” feature enabled for a category, then, after marking the status as Closed, you will see a modal window asking for a few data points. This is to provide a structured conclusion to the investigation that is visible for all participants. The data is used to provide network statistics about key impact metrics.

💡 Find detailed insights on case conclusions in the Statistics tab, presented through easy-to-read charts and metric cards.

Filling in the conclusion is not mandatory, but benefits all network participants. If you decide to not fill in the conclusion data right away, the case will be marked with a “not concluded” property tag. You can conclude the investigation or edit the conclusion at any time in the future.

💡 Note that the information asked in conclusion fields is in most cases different for the sender and receiver. The data fields can be configured together with request templates by Salv.

Exporting

If you need to export the contents of an investigation, you can use the “Download as PDF” button. This will generate a printable view of the investigation. You can then use your native web browser tools (e.g. right click > print) to export a PDF file from your browser and store it anywhere convenient for you.

⏬️ We recommend expanding the Notes section before clicking the “Download as PDF” button to ensure everything is visible in the PDF.
